However, it's important to know the dos and don'ts before your maiden flight. This guide will help you stay legal and safe, ensuring that you make the most of your new hobby.

Must-dos Before Flying Your Drone

• Read the user manual
  It's essential to familiarize yourself with your drone's features, controls and safety measures before taking off. This is required under UK CAA law.
• Obtain an Operator ID
  Register with the UK CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) and get an Operator ID. Stick the ID to your drone. Register here: https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/individual/register-as-drone-operator

• Know the basic rules
  Whilst the CAA doesn't explicitly require you to read the rules for a sub 250g drone, it's still necessary to stay legal. Review the CAA Drone Code here: https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/drone-code
• Always maintain Visual Line of Sight (VLOS)

• Adhere to altitude restrictions
  Never fly above the legal maximum altitude and remember that remaining in VLOS may further limit the maximum altitude.
• Respect Restricted Areas and Restricted Flight Zones
  Understand and abide by restricted areas (RAs) and always get permission from airport operators or air traffic control to fly in a Restricted Flight Zone (RFZ).
• Use the Drone Assist App
  To help you stay informed about the airspace and restrictions around your flying location, download and use the Drone Assist app, which provides real-time information on no-fly zones, temporary restrictions and other essential data. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
• Complete your Flyer ID
  To have a solid understanding of the rules and ensure safe flying, it's a good idea to obtain your Flyer ID even though not strictly necessary: https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/drone-code/getting-flyer-id
